Our History

Keene Auto Body has a long and successful history dating back to 1928 when it was founded by Ensio Piispanen who was an immigrant from Finland. Ensio began Keene Auto Body after growing to love the town of Keene and its people. Ensio moved his business, Keene Auto Body and Welding Co., to 543 Main Street in 1928. Ensio poses next to the Shell gasoline pumps in this 1932 photo shown on the right.

Pictured is a photo of Ellen Piispanen, Ensio’s wife, with their son Paul Piispanen who would one day become a 2nd generation owner.

The business is still located on the original site of 543 Main Street where it was originally founded. Although the building has been expanded throughout the years, our dedication to excellent quality workmanship and customer satisfaction has continued to be our compass throughout the years.

Family Owned With Family Values

Keene Auto Body has been owned by 3 generations of Piispanens starting with Ensio. Paul and Katherine Piispanen took over the family owned business in the 1950’s, and are shown in the bottom most picture on the right. Later in the 1990’s Steven Piispanen took the reins and has continued in the heritage of excellence that has become the trademark of the business.
