State Inspections

When do I need to get my vehicle inspected?

All New Hampshire vehicles are required to have an annual safety inspection. Vehicles are inspected in the same month as the registered owner’s birthday. You will need a current, valid registration at the time of inspection.

On Board Diagnostics

Newer models (1996 and newer) are must have an OBD (On-board diagnostics) test. OBD is an automotive term referring to a vehicle’s self-diagnostic and reporting capability, giving the auto technician access to the status of the various vehicle subsystems. The vehicles are connected to the NHOST inspection unit through the standardized OBD port. By communicating with the vehicle’s OBD system, the OBD inspection unit can determine whether or not the monitors are working properly and if there are any problems.
